Please be aware that the DSSP executable is free for academic and commercial users. Commercial users only need to pay if they want to use/obtain the DSSPold source code.
The distribution of the DSSPold source code (C version) is performed on a 'we trust you' basis: You dowload the license form and the source code yourself. This is done because we want to keep the distribution efforts limited.
A Bill for commercial users is available.

in exchange for the following commitments:

I hereby certify that

	(1) In using the software, We will respect the interests of the authors
	    and their institutions.

	(2) We will not use the DSSPold software in commercial activities before we
            have transfered Euro 1000,- to the WHAT IF / DSSP account.
	    
	(3) We will not redistribute the software to others outside the
            site. I will suggest to other interested
	    research groups to contact the authors directly. When I leave 
            my current institution, I will leave the software at the current
            institution and reapply for a new license from the new institution.

	(4) We will not alter or suppress the run-time copyright message.

	(5) We will acknowledge the program authors on any publication of
	    scientific results based in part on use of the program and 
	    cite the article in which the program was described (Kabsch,W. &
            Sander,C. 1983 "Dictionary of protein secondary structure:
            Pattern recognition of hydrogen bonded and geometrical 
            features", Biopolymers 22:2577-2637).

	(6) We will report evidence of program bugs to the authors.

	(7) We will send the source code of any bug corrections and program
	    extensions, major or minor, to the original authors, for free
	    use. If we have made major extensions which are incor-
	    porated by the authors, we reserve the right to be appropriately
	    mentioned in any future commercial license agreement.

	(8) We will not extract part of the software, e.g. modules or sub-
            routines, for use in other contexts without permission by the
	    authors.

	(9) We will not use the DSSPold program in the context of military 
            research.
