One monomer from the Bacteriorhodopsin trimer with the lipids (that could be seen in the 2D electron diffraction reconstruction study) around it.
The hydrophobic ones are at the outside and the hydrophylic ones at the inside
and near the ends of the helices. If you let the students load the file
BRD_lip.pdb, they see some of the lipids. The lipids are not all around because
the molecule crystallized (in 2D crystals) as a trimer so you do'nt see lipids
at the trimer contact interfaces.
