The hydrophobic ones are at the outside and the hydrophylic ones at the inside and near the ends of the helices. If you let the students load the file BRD_lip.pdb, they see some of the lipids. The lipids are not all around because the molecule crystallized (in 2D crystals) as a trimer so you do'nt see lipids at the trimer contact interfaces.
