Introduction

Dear students,

After fiddling around with protein structure details, we are now going to use this knowledge of the details to make real discoveries about protein structures. In several of the exercises that are to come, you can choose your own protein (complex) to work with. This will stretch your assistant to his/her limits, so do not expect answers to all your questions from now on.

With all exercises, try to not only answer the questions listed at the bottom of the page, but also answer the questions that weren't asked, such as "where in which cell does this protein do which function"? "How does this protein interact with its partners"? "What do you think about the structure - function relation"? How is this protein regulated? Etcetera!

We will look at proteins and their partners. These partners will in the successive steps of this course be:

DNA and RNA interactions are part of G Vuister's half of this course. Interactions with drugs (medicines) will be discussed in a seminar.
