The NewProt project is funded by the European Commission within its FP7 Programme, under the thematic area KBBE-2011-5 with contract number 289350. Two other projects were funded in this same category: BioPreDyn and BioLedge.

BioPreDyn is "a Collaborative Project paving the way from data to models, creating new bioinformatics methods and tools for data-driven predictive dynamic modelling in biotechnological applications. The BioPreDyn project aims at developing new computational tools to integrate and analyse the large amounts of data arising in biology and biotechnology, with the final goal to improve biotechnological processes and applications".
